Mr. Wolverine in California Dreamin

DEL MAR, Calif. (July 30, 2008) -- A compact but talented field of six is entered in Saturday’s $125,000 California Dreamin Handicap for California-breds at Del Mar.

Mr. Wolverine is by Last Lion, out of the L’Enjoleur mare April Mom, was bred by Elmer Ramos, was foaled at Rancho Santa Rosa, is owned by Begie, Dreyfus and Venneri Racing and is trained by Jorge Gutierrez. The $1,700 Barretts purchase has four wins in 12 starts, earnings of $292,866 and is coming off a fourth in the June 7 Whittingham.

Comoros is by Comic Strip, out of the Far North mare Mariah Reyna, was bred by owners Clark and Janine Rea Hansen, was foaled at Old English Rancho, is trained by John Sadler. He has three wins in seven starts, earnings of $127,880 and is coming off a second in a July 5 optional claimer.

Tiz Afire is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Mr. Leader mare Burning Desire, was bred by Harris Farms and Ken Maddy Trust, was foaled and is owned by Harris Farms and trained by Marty Jones. He has four wins in 19 starts, earnings of $239,825 and is coming off a second in a July 3 Ferdinand.

Cheroot is by Smokester, out of the Far North mare Triple Connection, was bred by owner Charlotte Wrather, was foaled at Cottonwood Ranch and is trained by Darrell Vienna. He has seven wins in 30 starts, earnings of $494,501 and is coming off a seventh in the April 19 San Simeon.

Bold Chieftain is by Chief Seattle, out of the Seattle Dancer mare Hooked on Music, was bred by Langheim, Morey, Robinson and Hall, was foaled at Cardiff Stud Farm and is trained by Bill Morey Jr. He has 10 wins in 19 starts, earnings of $634,727 and is coming off a fourth in the June 7 Ack Ack.

Epic Power is by Epic Honor, out of the Eighty Below Zero mare Petite n Powerful, was bred by Richard Meister, was foaled at Blooming Hills and is owned by La Canada Stables. He has 12 wins in 57 starts, earnings of $689,073 and finished first but was disqualified to fifth in his last race, a June 5 optional claimer.
